Newsletter This Month, August 2011

This month newsletter brings you an excerpt from the first E.F.Schumacher lecture by alternative economist James Robertson. He feels that sustainable development should be a pro-active way of life rather than reactive ‘after’ response to the ecological crisis that we make. He states: …There is a system here that has to be changed. The need is for systemic change, not just for disconnected changes in one part of the economic system or another. Read a larger excerpt from the lecture in the newsletter.

We have started a new series on water management. VK NARDEP has a long history of working in people’s technologies for water management -particularly reviving the traditional water harvesting structures like Oruni. The odyssey of VK NARDEP started some twenty five years ago at the draught affected Ramnath district of Tamil Nadu and continues to this day in southern Tamil Nadu. We hope you will enjoy reading these efforts to conserve the precious resource called water.

From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only “Peace Pilgrim” walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to “remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food.” In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world. In this newsletter we present the practical wisdom of peace pilgrim.

We also share with you the different happenings at our campuses like Green Health camps, exposure visits, Training sessions and Bio-Methanation plant sessions. We are happy to inform you that district collector visited our Technology Resource Center (TRC) and interacted in the training session for Bio-Methanation plant users. We also have in this newsletter wisdom on thinking by J.Krishnamurti, feeling by Thich Nath Han and knowing by Fritjof Capra. You can download it all in the link below:
