Dear Friends,
Namaskaram!
George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 – 2 November 1950) was an Irish playwright, critic, and political activist whose influence on Western theatre, culture, and politics spanned from the 1880s well into the mid-20th century. Over his career, he wrote more than sixty plays, including landmark works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1913), and Saint Joan (1923). Blending sharp social satire with historical allegory, Shaw emerged as the preeminent dramatist of his generation. In recognition of his literary achievements, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925. In this issue, we have given some of his quotable quotes.
The front page narrates the famous Japanese Fish Story—reminding us that we all need a “shark” in our lives, something that keeps us alert, moving, and growing.
In happenings section, we have featured (i) Workshops on “Traditional Siddha Varma Bone Setting Practices” (ii) Training programme on “Harit Urja” (iii) Training programme on “Water Conservation” (iv) Study tour (v) Field visit (vi) Paper presentation and (vii) Revival and Renovation of Traditional water body etc.
In the Wisdom section, E.F. Schumacher, author of the classic Small is Beautiful, advocates for a “people-centred economics.” Thomas Berry, the American Passionist priest, reminds us that we stand at a defining moment in history—one that calls for nothing less than a new ecological beginning. And Paul Hawken, the American environmentalist, laments that current corporate practices are transforming life-giving systems into repositories of waste—and, we might add, into agents of death.
